Working and teaching at an educational institution, I kept up with the times. I insist on the use of modern methods of web development; separating content(HTML) and layout(CSS), strict semantic coding checked with tools provided by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the people that wrote the recommendations. Many other companies develop pages like it was still 1996 instead of 2006.
"But their sites look great!" Yes, on the surface, they do, many however, will not make it very high into the search engine rankings because of the confusing jumble of code used and making content available only through the use of client side scripting and other technologies that the search engines ignore.

I was the Computer Center Manager and Webmaster at New Mexico State University at Alamogordo, a Community College and branch of NMSU in Las Cruces, NM. I was also the server administrator for NMSU-A's web presence at http://alamo.nmsu.edu. On the side, I taught classes for the computer science and web development programs.
That career ended due to a catastrophic motorcycle accident followed by falls causing more broken bones. My latest fall broke my left femur for the second time. It's been over four years since the crash and I still have many health and mobility issues due to the accident. The doctor finally said that there was no way in hell I was going back to work.
