About us
Tim
Pena, from Arizona with 20 years experience in tourism, has been
living in Zadar for more than 2 ½ years. Currently, Mr. Pena is
managing partner and CEO of Sand to Sea LLC, from Tucson, Arizona. He
served in the U.S. Navy during the Iran-Contra Hostage Crisis after
which he enrolled at the University of Arizona where he studied
business management. During his years at the UofA, Mr. Pena began his
publishing experience with a guide aimed at assisting new students to
adjust to college life. He also has extensive experience as a building
contractor and construction company owner in Tucson and has assisted
Mr. J. Jefrey Matthews, his partner, in many building projects in
Florida, California, Arizona and Mexico. He has lived and worked in
Phoenix, Tucson, Alaska, and Chicago prior to moving to Zadar and has
done extensive research as to what tourists and property investors are
looking for including 3 months in London recently attending tourism
and property conventions and discussing Croatian investments with
other professionals. According to Mr. Pena, they want upgraded
services and upgraded recreational offerings. And, they want to know 'what's
happening' in the area.
Joel
McDonald is originally of Chisholm, Minnesota - an iron ore mining
town in Northeastern Minnesota, where he graduated from Chisholm H.S.
in 1991 as an honour student and Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball. He
went on to St. Cloud State University in Minnesota where he obtained a
B.S. degree in Social Studies. Has taught World History and has
coached the boys' basketball team in Hibbing, MN (Birthplace of Kevin
McHale and Bob Dylan) for the past 9 years. Coach McDonald is 50%
Croatian. His great grandparents (Perkovic and Krznaric families) were
immigrants to northern Minnesota from the area of Lika (Letinac/Brinje/Krizpolje
area) and he took his first trip in 1987 when it was still Communist
Yugoslavia. He has been back two other times (1996 and 2003) and will
plan on returning next summer. Although he loves all of Croatia, he is
particular to the Dalmatian coastline and Zadar has always been one of
his favorite cities! Joel’s father, another basketball coach on
the collegiate level, will be making his 10th trip this summer. The
whole of the McDonald family has a natural love for Croatia's past,
present, and future!

Jefrey Matthews, partner of Sand to Sea LLC,
a long-time Tucson and Southern Arizona businessman and community
leader, is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College in Southern
California. Mr. Matthews, acting as managing director for family
interests, oversees residential and commercial properties in
California, Arizona and Miami, Florida and is a successful Real Estate
Broker with Long Realty in Tucson. Mr. Matthews holds high standards
in business management and frequently consults with high-ranking
political and business officials in both United States and Mexico
concerning advancements in the commercial property and tourism
industries. He has also owned and operated his own securities broker/dealer
firm (approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission – the
SEC) and has been a member of the National Association of Securities
Dealers, Inc. (NASD).
Bosko
Dubroja, originally from Zadar, Croatia, is the owner of Pijesak I
More, a new international real estate company based in Zadar, designed
to assist the international client and prospective property investor
to better obtain products and services in Croatia. Mr. Dubroja grew up
in Zadar; where he attended high school and went on to attend the
local faculty majoring in Chemical Engineering. He has extensive
experience in a multitude of positions including retail sales and film
production. Although Bosko is new to the industry, he has a
willingness to succeed and providing services to those interested in
Croatia. His extensive knowledge of the area and his interaction with
the many tourists and the local population will serve as an asset to
any prospective client.
Working
for You
We
are very proud of our accomplishments in an otherwise difficult field
of endeavor. We are seeking interested parties looking to expand on
their portfolios within the Croatian market. With our established
companies, locally and abroad; and working with a limited budget, we
have shown the capability of successfully entering new markets. We are
looking for individuals and/or organizations wanting to do the same.
Whether looking for a vacation property, wanting to start a business,
or looking to invest, we can be counted on to be a significant
assistance.
Since
our operation began, we have produced a visitor’s guide, ‘W’
magazine; a website, www.allthingscroatia.com;
and gained experience in different area of visitors’ needs --
including managing a small hotel in the community of Diklo during the
2004 summer season and assisting in an internet ‘point’
during the 2003 season. These projects and others have given an
insight to the companies of the Croatian business atmosphere that not
many foreigner investors possess. We have used western-style business
savvy and know-how to create an atmosphere that is uncommon to the
area, but in great need. “The average
Croatian businessperson, whether in tourism or any other field,
approaches the visitor /investor as only what the Croatian wants for
himself, not what the visitor/investor wants. We first look at what
our visitor/investors want”.
Although
we discuss some of our ideas here for tourism, if a company is also
looking for someone to expand their own ideas, we can do that as well.
